We look forward to welcoming you to Boghead Holiday Cottages.
Enjoy the beautiful steadings and stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
Take in the slower pace of country life, watch the sun rise over the Coreen Hills, enjoy watching the cows, sheep in the surrounding fields and the evening sun set over the Cairngorms.
Take in the beautiful scenery around the farm. Enjoy walks or drives through the surrounding countryside and visit its many attractions before coming back to the warmth of your cottage and relax in front of the wood burning stove.
Boghead is owned by Thomas and Fiona Jackson, and their five dogs Red and Glen the working Collies, Storm, Rum and Jasper the Working Cocker Spaniels, Harvey the ginger cat and 2 ducks that used to lay eggs for the house (but now seem to be retired) as well as the sheep and cattle that live on the farm.
Thomas is from generations of farmers and Fiona has recently given up working for the NHS at the Jubilee Hospital in Huntly.
We moved here from Gloucestershire in September 2012 and spent our first seven years removing farm buildings that had been erected in the 1950s and restoring and converting the steadings into your holiday accommodation.
When we arrived here for our first winter ‘Bill’ the Clydesdale and his mate ‘Nimrod’ (both now sadly passed on) lived in the stables, it was in a very poor state of repair with holes in the roof and the end gable collapsing. We knew that our first lambing here was going to be hard as we had no suitable sheds so the sheep were lambed in what is now the Byre, since then we have erected modern sheds for the cattle, sheep and machinery storage at the far side of the house.
The steading conversions were started in 2013 and with the aid of a grant from the Aberdeenshire Leader Grant Programme we were able to complete the second steading in 2019. We have reused the original roof slates, ridges and toppers to retain the character of the building and it was important to us to employ local builders, joiners, plumbers, painters and electricians to do all the work.
The water for the cottages comes from our own private supply on the farm, it is regularly tested and is treated with a UV filter. It is pure Scottish spring water just right for adding to your whisky or drinking straight from the tap.
